Double Your Fun: Copy and Paste Like a Pro
Double Your Fun: Copy and Paste Like a Pro
Have you ever built a cool treehouse and wanted two of them? You could build the second one from scratch. That takes a long time. You could copy the first one and paste it. That is much faster!
In Fortnite Creative, we use a tool called "Copy and Paste Region." It lets you duplicate parts of your island. This is great for making forests, cities, or obstacle courses. Let’s learn how to use it.
What You'll Learn
- How to select a part of your island.
- How to copy that part to your clipboard.
- How to paste it in a new spot.
- Why this helps you build bigger islands.
How It Works
Imagine you are playing with building blocks. You build a perfect tower. Now you want a second tower next to it. You do not want to rebuild it. You just want to make a copy.
Copy and Paste Region works like that. It takes a 3D box of your world. It saves that box. Then you can put another box there.
This is different from copying a single device. Sometimes you want to copy a whole area. Maybe you want to copy a patch of grass. Or a group of rocks. This tool does exactly that.
Think of it like a camera. You take a picture of your scene. Then you print another copy of that picture. You can stick the copy on your wall. Your island gets bigger with less work.
Let's Build It
We will make a small forest. We will make one tree. Then we will copy it to make many trees.
Step 1: Place Your First Tree
- Open your island in UEFN.
- Go to the Device tab.
- Find a Prop or a Tree item.
- Place it on the ground.
- Make sure it looks nice. You can change its color if you want.
Step 2: Select the Region
Now we need to tell the computer what to copy.
- Click on the Copy and Paste Region tool. It is in the toolbar.
- You will see a 3D box appear.
- Drag the corners of the box.
- Make sure the box covers your tree.
- The box should be tight around the tree. Not too big. Not too small.
Step 3: Copy It
- Click the Copy button.
- Your tree is now saved in your computer’s memory. This is called the "clipboard."
- You can move your mouse around. The tree will still be copied.
Step 4: Paste It
- Move your mouse to a new spot on the ground.
- Click the Paste button.
- A new tree appears!
- You can move it with your mouse.
- Click again to place it.
Now you have two trees. You can copy and paste as many times as you want. You can make a whole forest in minutes.
Why This Is Cool
You do not have to build every tree by hand. You build one. Then you copy it. This saves time. You can focus on making your island fun to play.
Try It Yourself
Now it is your turn. Try to make a small village.
- Place a house.
- Place a mailbox next to it.
- Select both with the Copy and Paste Region tool.
- Paste them in a different spot.
- Move the new house and mailbox around.
Hint: If you select too much, you can shrink the box. If you select too little, you can grow the box. Take your time to get the box right.
Recap
Copy and Paste Region is a powerful tool. It helps you duplicate parts of your island. You select an area. You copy it. You paste it elsewhere. This makes building faster and easier. You can create big worlds with less effort. Keep practicing. Your islands will grow bigger every day.
