Digging Your Own Secret Cave in Fortnite

Have you ever wanted to hide a secret treasure chest inside a mountain? It is super fun to build a cave. Then you can hide it from your friends. They will have to explore to find it. Today, we will make a cool cave. We will also add a campfire. It will light up the dark inside. Let’s start digging!

What You'll Learn

  • How to shape the ground like clay.
  • How to push the ground down to make a hole.
  • How to put a campfire inside the hole.
  • How to make the cave look real with trees.

How It Works

Think of your Fortnite island like a giant block of playdough. You can squish it, stretch it, and roll it. In UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite), we use tools to change the shape of the land.

First, we need a mountain. A cave lives inside a mountain. You can build a mountain by pushing the ground up. It is like making a big hill.

Next, we dig the cave. We use a tool called the Sculpting Tool. Imagine you have a giant spoon. You scoop out the dirt to make a hollow space. This hollow space is your cave. You can make it wide or narrow. You can make it long or short.

Inside the cave, it is dark. That is why we add a campfire. A campfire is a device. It gives off light. It makes the cave cozy. It helps players see where they are going.

Finally, we add trees. Trees are like decorations. They make the mountain look natural. Without trees, it just looks like a grey rock. With trees, it looks like a real forest.

Let's Build It

Here is how we build our secret cave. We will use the tools in UEFN.

// Step 1: Make a big hill
// Use the Sculpting Tool to push the ground up.
// Make a tall mountain. This is your cave home.

// Step 2: Dig the hole
// Select the Sculpting Tool again.
// Choose the "Sculpt Down" mode.
// Click and drag inside the mountain.
// Pull the ground inward.
// You are scooping out the dirt!
// Make a big round hole. This is the cave entrance.

// Step 3: Add the campfire
// Open the Device Menu.
// Search for "Campfire".
// Place it on the floor of your cave.
// Turn it on. It will glow warmly.

// Step 4: Add trees
// Open the Foliage Tool.
// Pick some pine trees.
// Paint them on the sides of the mountain.
// Make sure they are outside the cave.
// This makes the cave look hidden.

Walkthrough:

  1. The Mountain: First, pick the Sculpting Tool. Use the "Raise" brush. Push the ground up high. Make a nice big hill. This is the outside of your cave.
  2. The Dig: Keep the Sculpting Tool. Switch to "Lower" or "Sculpt Down". Find a spot on the side of the hill. Click and drag inwards. Imagine you are digging a tunnel. Go deep enough to fit a player.
  3. The Light: Now, the cave is dark. Open your device menu. Type "Campfire". Drag one into the cave. Place it on the floor. It will light up the walls. It looks magical.
  4. The Look: Use the Foliage Tool. Add trees around the entrance. This hides the cave. It makes it look like part of the forest.

Try It Yourself

Can you make two caves? Try digging a second cave next to the first one. Make it smaller. Put a different device inside, like a lamp or a torch. See how the light changes the mood.

Hint: Use the "Scale" tool on the sculpting brush. A smaller brush lets you make tiny details. A bigger brush makes big shapes fast.

Recap

You made a mountain. You dug a hole for a cave. You added a campfire for light. You added trees for style. Great job! You can now hide secrets in your island. Keep building and exploring.
