The Secret Map: Finding Your Island in the Crowd
The Secret Map: Finding Your Island in the Crowd
Imagine you built a giant Lego castle. You want your friends to find it. But if you hide it in a dark closet, they will never see it. Fortnite islands work the same way.
We are going to learn how to make sure players can find your island. We will also look at the "Scoreboard" that tells you who visited. This helps you fix your game and make it even better.
What You'll Learn
- Why your island needs to be "Public" to be seen.
- How players find your island in the game menu.
- How to check the "Scoreboard" to see who played.
- How to use that info to make your game fun.
How It Works
Think of Fortnite Discover as a giant library. Every island is a book.
1. The "Public" Rule You cannot hide your book in a private drawer. Your island must be Public. This means anyone can see it. If your island is Private, only you and your team can play it. It is like a secret diary. No one else can read it.
2. How Players Find It Players look for books in different places. They might look at:
- Recents: Islands they played yesterday.
- Favorites: Islands they love.
- Browse: Categories like "Combat" or "Obby."
- Following: Islands made by creators they like.
To get into these lists, your island must be Discoverable. This is a special setting. It tells Fortnite, "Please show my island to other players!"
3. The Scoreboard (Analytics) Once players visit, you can see the data. This is called Analytics. It is like a scorecard. It shows you:
- How many people played.
- Where they got stuck.
- Which levels they liked.
You can only see this scorecard if you are the Owner or Admin of the island. Your friends who are just playing cannot see it.
Let's Build It
We will set up an island so players can find it. Then we will look at the data dashboard.
Step 1: Make Your Island Public
- Open your island in UEFN.
- Click the Publish button.
- Make sure the setting says Public.
- Submit your island for Discover. You can do this on the Fortnite Creative website.
Step 2: Wait for Players Now, your island is in the library. Players can find it in the "Browse" menu. They might play it if they like your genre.
Step 3: Check Your Scoreboard
- Go to the Fortnite Creative website.
- Find your project.
- Click on Analytics.
- Look at the Audience tab.
You will see graphs and numbers. These tell you how many players visited. If the number is low, try changing your island’s name or picture. If the number is high, you are doing great!
Important Note:
- Parents: Kids might need a parent to unlock some islands.
- Privacy: The data is safe. It does not show who your friends are. It only shows numbers.
Try It Yourself
Challenge: Change your island’s description. Make it sound exciting! Then, wait one hour. Check your Analytics again. Did more people find it?
Hint: Think about what words players use when they search for games. Do they search for "Fun" or "Hard"? Use those words in your description.
Recap
- Your island must be Public to be seen.
- Use Discover settings so players can find you in menus.
- Check Analytics to see how many people played.
- Use that data to make your game better.
