Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) comes with Lumen. Lumen is a comprehensive lighting tool that creates softer shadows, realistic global illumination, and better visual experiences for islands created in UEFN, much like the lighting you see in Chapter 4 of Fortnite Battle Royale.

This guide shows you how to use Lumen in your project. Whether you want to upgrade an existing island you created in Fortnite Creative or create a new island in UEFN that uses Lumen, you can create the island with custom high-end lighting.

There are three paths you can take to use Lumen on your island:

• Basic: Existing Fortnite developer
• Intermediate: New UEFN artist
• Expert: Bespoke lighting

If you want to test out the different lighting paths, create an island in Fortnite Creative using a template island that has pre-existing structures, then move through the lighting paths described below to learn the differences between each path.
